Directional Signs with Arrows

A well-positioned house sign with the correct arrow can make finding your entrance much easier, particularly if your property is set back from the road, has a long driveway or shares an access route with neighbouring homes.

This guide explains how to choose the right directional arrow, where to position your sign and what to check before your design is made.

Choosing the Right Arrow Direction

Think about where someone will be standing or driving when they first see your sign. The arrow needs to point towards the correct route from that position, rather than simply showing which side of the property the entrance is on.

Left, right and alternative arrow directions for personalised house signs

Left and right arrows work well for straightforward turns. Diagonal or corner arrows can be useful where the approach is less direct, while a both-way arrow may suit a sign pointing towards two access routes. The best choice depends on the layout of your entrance.

Where Should You Position Your Sign?

Place your directional sign where visitors need to make a decision, such as at the entrance to a shared driveway or where a private access road branches off. A sign positioned after the turning may be too late to help.

Make sure the wording and arrow are easy to see from the normal direction of approach. Check that the sign won't be hidden by plants, parked vehicles or gates, and choose a size that can be read from the intended viewing distance.

Check Your Arrow Before We Make Your Sign

When ordering a suitable house sign, select your preferred arrow direction where the option is available. If your layout needs something less straightforward, explain what you need in the further instructions box.

We'll email you a preview showing your wording and arrow, so you can check that everything points the right way and request any necessary changes before production.
